What is Social-Emotional Learning?
"Social-emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which people acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve personal goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make empowered and responsible decisions" - CASEL
"SEL is the process of developing the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are vital for school, work, and life success.
People with strong social-emotional skills are better able to cope with everyday challenges and benefit academically, professionally, and socially. From effective problem-solving to self-discipline, from impulse control to emotion management and more, SEL provides a foundation for positive, long-term effects on kids, adults, and communities.
Children thrive. Schools win. Workplaces benefit. Society strengthens. All due to social-emotional learning." - Committee For Children
"Life Skills That Matter"
In a world full of discontent and disconnect... and with marketing strategies and social media amplifying false illusions of health, beauty, self worth and real life situations... our girls are finding it harder and harder to shine from within.
More than ever our teenage girls are feeling lost, alone, misunderstood, anxious, worried, directionless and pressure from many different areas of their lives.
At a time in life when they should be joyfully discovering their authentic selves; discovering how to regulate their emotions; learning about what it means to develop self-serving boundaries and a healthy self esteem... the statistics suggest that mental health, depression and anxiety are on the rise in our young people.
We know how incredibly powerful life coaching can be for women. Imagine if teenage girls had the same opportunity! And even more magical.. that half of their sessions were guided by our wise and gentle horses. This will tie in with my Youth Work study as part of my journey toward working more with vulnerable teenagers.
I am incredibly passionate about supporting teenage girls navigate their personal journey with strength and certainty. This mentoring program is structured in a way to assist teen girls develop their ability to empower themselves as they learn what it means to develop healthy and strong self awareness, self acceptance, self worth, self esteem and confidence.
When we develop personal leadership, life skills and self empowerment, we have the tools we need to navigate the "rough roads" in life. We know how to connect to our own personal power we can learn how to grow through challenging times instead of feeling overwhelmed by them.
The Teen Girl Empowerment program is a semester-long curriculum program.
Please note: Not all units listed in the 'Module' boxes below will be included as the SEL component is being modified to be delivered over 10 weeks.

"When teen girls learn how to be a leader of their own life... they learn the art of taking emotional responsibility for themselves. They learn how strong they really are and how to step into their personal power in order to lift themselves up through the toughest times and their darkest days in life... These skills are essential in keeping us moving forward to not only survive... but to thrive."

My daughter attended the teen workshop for girls in the holidays with Jess and her horses and what a wonderful day she had. Jess is warm, friendly and so lovely. Add the interaction with the horses (which my girl has never been close to in this way), the effect on her was immediate. With all the counsellors etc we have seen the one day spent with Jess and her team outweighs everything else. Can't recommend this amazing opportunity enough.. Jess and horse Hippy, thank you so much for all you are doing and for providing such a beautiful environment to help our kids..... THANK YOU...."💕
