What is Social Emotional Learning?

"Social-emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which people acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve personal goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make empowered and responsible decisions" - CASEL

"SEL is the process of developing the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are vital for school, work, and life success.

People with strong social-emotional skills are better able to cope with everyday challenges and benefit academically, professionally, and socially. From effective problem-solving to self-discipline, from impulse control to emotion management and more, SEL provides a foundation for positive, long-term effects on kids, adults, and communities.

Children thrive. Schools win. Workplaces benefit. Society strengthens. All due to social-emotional learning." - Committee For Children

At a time in life when our girls and young women should be joyfully discovering their authentic selves; discovering how to manage their emotions; learning about what it means to develop self-serving boundaries and a healthy self esteem... the statistics suggest that mental health, depression and anxiety are on the rise in our young people This work is dear to my heart and a specialised program for girls and young women. I have spent 5 years with a strong focus on teenage girl mental and emotional development and guiding our young women with personal leadership as the framework for self awareness, self empowerment and self responsibility.  While the internet has brought many benefits to our daily lives, it has also had negative effects on some aspects of our well-being, including the confidence of teenage girls. Social media platforms and online communities can create a constant stream of comparisons, judgments, and unrealistic expectations, leading to feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt. Teen girls are often exposed to harmful content that promotes unattainable beauty standards, objectifies women, and perpetuates stereotypes. Additionally, cyberbullying and online harassment can have a devastating impact on self-esteem and mental health.  There is a growing concern about the crisis of low self-esteem and emotional intelligence in teenagers.. Low self-esteem can have significant negative impacts on teenagers' mental health, academic performance, and social interactions. Many factors can contribute to low self-esteem, including social comparison, unrealistic expectations, lack of support, and negative self-talk. It's crucial to address this crisis by providing teenagers with tools and resources to build their self-esteem. By empowering teenagers to value themselves and their unique qualities, we can help them develop the confidence and emotional fitness needed to thrive in today's complex world.

The teen girl culture pressures are at an all time high. Our teen girls are motivated and directed by the cultural theme that it's more important to fit in, than it is to find where they belong.  More than ever our teenage girls are feeling self doubt, misunderstood, confused, anxious, like they don't fit in, directionless and pressure from many different areas of their lives. Developing self-esteem is an important process for all teenagers, including teen girls. Self-esteem refers to the value and respect that individuals have for themselves, and it is closely linked to overall well-being and mental health. There are many ways that teen girls can develop healthy self-esteem, including building positive relationships, pursuing hobbies and interests, setting achievable goals, practicing self-care, and seeking out positive role models and mentors. It's also important for parents, caregivers, and educators to provide support and encouragement for young women as they navigate the challenges of adolescence. By promoting a focus on learning about self empowerment, teen girls can build the confidence and emotional awareness needed to thrive both in their personal lives and in the wider world.

"When teen girls learn how to self lead in their own life... they learn the art of taking emotional responsibility for themselves. They learn how strong they really are and how to step into their personal power in order to navigate challenges, uncertainties and upsets... By empowering young women to value themselves, we can help them develop the confidence and emotional intelligence needed to thrive in today's complex world.

Please note;

In the past, our programs were conducted as a comprehensive 10+week curriculum in the Adelaide Hills. However, with our exciting move to Willalooka, we're adapting to better serve our community.

We will be offering dynamic 1-day workshops, specifically designed for tween and teen girls. These workshops are ideal for fostering leadership and personal growth in a condensed, impactful format.
Once our facility has been built, I will offer a 6-16 week program to schools or youth organisations. If you are enquiring from a Youth Organisation, School, DCP, Community Group or from a Private Organisation, please contact me to discuss the Building Block program in more detail.

If you are interested in arranging a group workshop tailored to your unique needs, I'd be delighted to discuss how we can collaborate. Please feel free to reach out to me directly.

Looking forward to crafting memorable and transformative experiences for young women together!

My daughter attended the teen workshop for girls in the holidays with Jess and her horses and what a wonderful day she had. Jess is warm, friendly and so lovely.
Add the interaction with the horses (which my girl has never been close to in this way), the effect on her was immediate. With all the counsellors etc we have seen the one day spent with Jess and her team outweighs everything else. Can't recommend this amazing opportunity enough.. Jess and horse Hippy, thank you so much for all you are doing and for providing such a beautiful environment to help our kids.....
THANK YOU...."💕
